Return of the Jaded bio:

Launched in 2013, Return of the Jaded rapidly made a lasting impression upon the aficionados of deep, quality underground house music.

Jaded with the existing state of affairs in the world of electronic music at the time, Zoltan Kontes created ROTJ as a counterculture movement with a desire to offer a fresh alternative to current trends.

No less than 8 of his productions have charted in the top 100 on Beatport. Further releases on Relief, Suara, Kittball and well received remixes on Enormous Tunes are a testament to the critical appreciation he has received in such a short time.

A plethora of respected DJ’s have been dropping ROTJ tracks in their sets namely the likes of Green Velvet, Pete Tong, Danny Howard, Tube & Berger, Franky Rizardo, Manuel De La Mare, Boy George, Tocadisco, Gorgon City, amongst others.

He presently hosts a monthly boiler-room type event in his hometown of Ottawa, Canada called Sunday Sessions.

ROTJ is also busy in the studio concocting new original productions that will further distinguish him as a trendsetter in a rapidly evolving music industry.

INFO ABOUT OPEN DECKS:

Sunday Sessions has always been a grassroots underground dance community event, so to help warm up the night we're hosting: OPEN DECKS!

HOW IT WORKS:

For most every locals and residents nights at Sunday Sessions, we will have 3 x 40min time slots (8:00-8:40pm, 8:40 - 9:20pm, 9:20-10:00pm), designated as "Open Decks" for Ottawa Underground Dance Community dj's. DJ's are selected by a RANDOM DRAW. DJ's who wish to participate need to arrive at Mercury Lounge for 7:50pm. We'll invite all DJ's present at 7:50 to come up and throw their name in the hat for a random draw. Whoever's name is picked first gets their first choice of the 3 available time slots listed above, 2nd gets 2nd choice and 3rd name picked gets what is left. Any DJ's who have been previously for Open Decks and DIDN'T get picked, will get an additional ballot so we can give everyone a chance to play (ie, 2nd visit without playing gives 2 ballots, 3rd visit without playing gets 3 ballots, etc. Reset back to 1 ballot after they've played).

Whether your name gets drawn or it doesn't, we still encourage you to come out to the next Open Decks and throw your name in the hat again. We love to see that enthusiasm and look forward to seeing you often and getting to know you better.

REQUIREMENTS: We must still respect the musical style of the event, and the flow of the evening, so this is NOT OPEN FORMAT.

This opportunity is for *underground house music* DJ's - sorry, no hardcore, techno, EDM or commercial dance, trance, dubstep, jungle etc. Any genre that falls under the "house music umbrella" is acceptable: deep house, funky, Chicago, jackin' house, progressive house, tech house, etc.

NO OUTSIDE EQUIPMENT please. We're keeping it simple and DJ's must play off USB's (or CD's, if anyone still uses those), using the CDJ2000nxs and DJM2000Nxs mixer already set up in Mercury Lounge. No laptops. controllers, etc.

Gene Farris at White Rabbit: All Night Dancing 11pm to 6am

Gene Farris at White Rabbit: All Night Dancing 11pm to 6am

Framework Music, Pozativ Music Group & City At Night proudly present a night with a house music legend:

GENE FARRIS (Chicago)

Farris Wheel | Cajual | Relief Records | Dirtybird | Defected

w/ local DJ support from:

BALU
RICK LAPLANTE

Gene Farris lives and breathes house music. A bonafide Chicago legend, he’s been pushing musical boundaries for close to three decades, from spinning at underground warehouse parties in the early 90s to working with the current crop of world-leading labels and artists. Relief, Dirtybird, ViVa Music, Defected: all have released and championed Gene Farris records over the past few years, alongside his own Farris Wheel imprint: a fitting testament to the quality and relevance of the music he creates.

Gene started his career spinning vinyl – a mix of acid house and disco – at the and was one of The Power House’s first resident DJs, as well as holding down an eight year residency at Chicago’s infamous Boom Boom Room. A move to Europe followed, with Gene holding down a four-year residency at Jimmy Woo in Amsterdam, after which he hit the studio with a profound sense of innovation and a desire to make music that moved both him and others.

As a self-taught engineer and producer, his work with Cajual, Relief Records, Defected Records, Soma Recordings and his own breakout label Farris Wheel Recordings, propelled his influence into ever expanding realms. His catalogue is vast, varied and consistently inspired, with notable releases including ‘Play’ on Snatch!, ‘LOL’ on Relief and 2015’s ‘Move Your Body’, which was one of the biggest club records of the year. Similarly impressive was Gene’s ‘Welcome To Chicago EP’, which after its release on Defected Records back in 2003, quickly became a cult classic.

2018 sees Farris Wheel locked back into a regular groove of releases after a few years’ absence, with Paul Johnson, Roy Davis Jr, Sydney Blue all set to release over the coming months. And with the continuing success of his Gene Farris & Friends events - Chicago’s favourite monthly house party, with recent guests including Black Coffee, Jamie Jones, Patrick Topping and Walker & Royce – Gene is undeniably a major player on today’s electronic music scene.

More recently, Garris has become a go-to collaborator for many AAA producers, Green Velvet, Erick Morillo, Sonny Fodera, Harry Romero and more have all shared studio time with him, with the results rarely being anything short of extraordinary. Take 2015’s ‘We Work It’ alongside Sonny Fodera: a record that lodged itself in the Beatport Top 10 for months, and further established Farris as a rare and highly sought-after talent.

In 2016, Farris took his penchant for collaboration to new creative heights with the release of In The Screen: a studio album that included co-productions with a staggering roster of talent, including Loco Dice, Jesse Rose, Mihalis Safras, Dajae and many, and was released to critical acclaim as well as widespread DJ and radio play.

As someone who has never paid mind to the restrictions of genre – probably due to his eclectic DJ beginnings, - Farris moves effortlessly between all shades of house and techno, making him at once accessible and unpredictable: a rarity in the often rigorously shoeboxed world of electronic music. Long may he continue to surprise and delight us all.

City At Night & Framework Music present:

Super Flu
(Monaberry, Halle, Germany)

Feliks Thielemann & Mathias Schwarz - that´s Super Flu!!!

Welcome to a world where crispy baked bass drums give the keynote, where Momratzn twitch to tweaking hi-hats and speech bubbles wave engaging basses to you! Do you falter on making a tough decision? Super Flu recommend you garlic bread rolls and 6-minute-boiled eggs! Is your equipment rubbish? Trust your intuition, tickle the max out of the old stuff and squeeze inspiration out of everything you can lay your hands on!
Are you lacking ideas? Take your cockatoo's advice! Go on vacation and have some beer. Try, (you know, doing something you'd never do otherwise). Listen to Jazz. Tinker whatever comes to your mind using funny snack bar names, exotic instruments and kid's toys. Now with your best mate and at least one mutual favourite bakery, lots of Herzblut and a great Traum behind, nothing can harm you anymore...!

RICK LAPLANTE BIO:

Hailing from Ottawa, Canada, Rick Laplante's involvement in the party scene began in London, ON in early 1992 as a partner of Prism Productions, a project committed to hosting intimate gatherings with good vibes and fresh music. Unable to resist the siren song of the turntables for long, Rick began basement DJing later in 1992, with his first professional gig the following year.

His main musical influences came through London's proximity to Detroit and Toronto, where frequent weekend visits to these cities exposed him to some of the most groundbreaking underground sounds heard in the world during the early 90's. Rick has now been professionally DJing for over 20 years.

Rick's preferred club style is anything that can be described as groovy and/or bouncy tech-house, yet he also draws influence from his eclectic music collection - with flashes of myriad genres, ranging from techno to disco, breaks to jazz and from latin to lounge. He hasn't forgotten his musical roots from running the Detroit-Toronto corridor for years, either... so you can always expect the unexpected while Rick blends several different auditory flavours into his Dj sets.

Rick is active in the local scene of our Nation's Capital, he promoted a weekly afterhours event, Sunrise, for its run of over 5 years, and now with his current promotions company "Framework Music", hosts White Rabbit all night dance events in City At Night, as well as co-hosting (with Return of the Jaded), Ottawa best long weekend dance party: Sunday Sessions in Ottawa's legendary Mercury Lounge.

As well as promoting events, Rick has performed many out of town gigs, from Montreal to Toronto, from Boston to New York City and across north eastern North America. Rick now has his sights firmly set beyond Ottawa's city limits by starting to delve into production work, with aspirations of launching his own label in coming years.

Some people are driven by passion and sheer determination. Others are blessed with raw talent and a natural sense of rhythm. In Ryan Obermiller's case, he is one of the few who possess both.

Originally drawn to the New England house music scene while attending college at UNH, Ryan immersed himself in the scene and began studying the craft of DJing. He made regular appearances on UNH's weekly underground electronic music show, Beat Khemistry (WUNH), later hosting his own version of Beat Khemistry on Muziklab.com.

In January 2004, Ryan landed a residency at the Red Door Lounge in Portsmouth NH (a local hot spot with a reputation for groundbreaking sounds). Soon after taking over the booking responsibilities for the Red Door and helping to further cultivate the underground DJ scene on the NH seacoast.

As a member of Marz Entertainment, one of the premier promoters of house music events in Boston, Ryan has begun to expand his unique, upbeat sound to a wider audience. Appearing all over the northeast, and alongside some of house music's biggest names, Ryan has established himself as a top up-and-coming DJ.

Harvard Bass Bio:

Mexican-American bad-boy Victor ‘Harvard Bass’ has always brought together the raw appeal of American booty with the style and function of European Ass. His sound has earned him in-crew-sion in Seth Troxler’s Tuskegee posse, Green Velvet’s Relief Records, and of course Tiga's Turbo. With years of releases under his belt, he’s maintained an impressively consistent voice.

It all comes down to the fact that he is a bonafide sex addict who managed to turn a problem into a career by combining his obsession with thickness and his prowess for production. His Releases can be heard as Harvard Bass’ confession, his plea of insanity set to the sound of a perfectly functioning Ibiza super-club, complete with sexy paid dancers, industrial smoke cannons, and the kind of mass communal ego death that comes from 10+ straight hours of tech-house.

With the Launch of his very own Bump City Records, Harvard has vowed to put his famous raw ghetto sexiness on the map. Boom-time, ladies and gentlemen.

White Rabbit: Nathan Barato - All Night Dancing 11pm to 6am

Saturday April 27

White Rabbit proudly presents:

NATHAN BARATO
Rawthentic | Hot Creations | Cajual | Relief | Mood | Circus | Roots And Wings Music

https://www.facebook.com/nathan.barato.fanpage/
www.soundcloud.com/nathanbarato

With his roots in the Toronto after-hours circuit and a profile that has since seen him smash premiere international platforms across the globe, Nathan Barato’s carved out a reputation as not only one of the most playable producers in dance music, but amongst its most prolific DJs as well.

In other words, Nathan Barato isn’t just the guy being invited to play all the big parties, he’s the guy everyone else on the bill is spinning too. Whether it was Marco Carola first rinsing Nathan’s 2012 hit “Hard Werq” to worldwide audiences just months before asking him to join the Music On roster, or Jamie Jones deeming Nathan a new star at the Hot Creations camp while making this year’s ‘Wobble Talk’ EP a mainstay in his superstar sets… the T.O. native has skyrocketed to international prominence as a well-respected and sought after name.

Many credit Nathan’s success to his genre diversity. His eclectic sound infuses many styles and has been recognized as one where the likes of 90's garage get sampled against the backdrop of funky techno. As a result, Nathan’s music is being released on some of the most prestigious imprints in the industry, including the aforementioned Hot Creations and spinoff Hottrax, as well as Rekids, Cajual, Saved Records, MOOD, and of course, his very own Roots And Wings label.

As Nathan Barato keeps on turning industry eyes and ears in his direction, he continues to get booked at some of the most vaunted events and clubs around the world, from festivals like BPM (Playa Del Carmen, Mexico), Ultra (Miami, USA), and We Are (London, UK), to venues that include Womb (Tokyo, Japan), Fabric (London, UK), WHP (Manchester, UK), Stereo (Montreal, Canada), Coda (Toronto, Canada), Output (New York, USA), Sound (Los Angeles, USA), Club Space (Miami, USA), Barn (Modena, Italy), DC10 (Ibiza, Spain), Amnesia (Ibiza, Spain), and more.

Carlo Lio at City At Night

Thursday April 18th (Long Weekend), City At Night & Framework Music present:

Carlo Lio (One Edge Society, Rawthentic)
https://www.facebook.com/carloliodj
https://soundcloud.com/carlolio

Some artists are content earning the label of “overnight sensation,” while others patiently rely on hard work, dedication, and perseverance to earn the title of“everlasting sensation.” The latter is unquestionably the case for enigmatic Toronto native producer/DJ, Carlo Lio. Originally known for leading the pack of prodigiously talented Toronto producers, Carlo has utilized his trademark cosmic house and techno sound to cement his status among today’s prodigiously talented world-renowned producers. For proof, look no further than his remix of the
‘Diablo’ track on Cocoon Recordings. One of the greatest rewards an artist can receive is to be recognized by his musical heroes, and an even greater honor occurs when those heroes ask you to remix for them. Such was the case for Carlo when Dubfire and Oliver Huntemann approached him to remix ‘Diablo’. Without hesitation, Carlo accepted this project and the resulting track not only topped the charts, but it manifested Carlo’s personal dreams in a single shot. Ever since, Carlo’s discography has exploded, with his music catching the eyes and ears of some of the biggest labels in the market – SCI+TEC, Bedrock Records, MOOD, Desolat, Suara, Intec Digital, and Mindshake Records just to name a few. And in the coming months, Lio will be releasing remixes and collaboration projects for Mathew Dear (aka Audion), DJ Sneak, Paul Ritch, Carl Cox, and Nicole Moudaber. As talented as Carlo is in the studio, his deep pulsing tech-house and shaggy techno beats are even more powerful with captivating dancers in clubs and festivals around the globe. With home bases in both Toronto and Barcelona, Lio effortlessly maintains the life of a superstar DJ, continuously roaming the planet for new dance floors to conquer. This year alone has Carlo billed on some of the world’s biggest events, including BPM Festival (Mexico), Digital Dreams (Canada), Audiogate (Germany), Balaton Sound (Hungary), Barrakud (Croatia), Les Plages Electroniques (France) and Music On (Ibiza). Having no intentions of slowing down from this pace anytime soon, rest assured Carlo Lio is at the top of his game, routed straight into the international limelight with a lifetime of accolades ahead.

Eli Wilkie is a DJ and record producer from Boston, MA, now based out of San Francisco, who has been spinning for years around the nation, shaking up dance floors with his own blend of funky driving house music. His DJ career began at Boston's underground Hibernia nightclub, in which he DJ'ed alongside the likes of Steve Porter, Luis Diaz, Paul Rogers, Chris Reavey, Paul Dailey, Fernando Bairos and Podje (Ireland). This residency paved the way for gigs in Boston and beyond, as well as for his career as a producer.

Together Eli Wilkie and Steve Porter created the alias Agent001. The upbeat, bouncy and playful tracks under this alias have a unique sound, which was created through fusing the duos influences in music, and their ability to experiment with new ideas and themes. Tracks like 'When Pigs Fly', 'Bubblebath' and 'Daniel Wiggy' have had strong worldwide support by DJs such as Paul Van Dyk, Pete Tong, Sasha & Digweed, Sander Kleinenberg, Lee Burridge, Sandra Collins and James Zabiela. On the solo side Eli produced 2 remixes of 'Impulsive Ray' by producer Emrecan Cakir.

Currently a resident DJ at Satellite in San Francisco, Eli Wilkie has played alongside notable DJ's such as Steve Porter, Lee Burridge, Sander Kleinenberg, Danny Howells, Armin Van Buuren, Sean Cusick, Sandra Collins, Dave Ralph, Chris Fortier and DJ Dan; playing in such venues as Axis, Avalon and RISE (Boston), Stereo & StereoBar (Montreal), Sullivan Room & Le Souk (NYC), 1015 Folsom (San Francisco) and at a handful of venues at the Winter Music Conference, including State.

ABOUT MARC REBILLET, aka LOOPDADDY:

https://www.marcrebillet.com
https://www.facebook.com/marcrebillet/
https://www.youtube.com/marcrebillet
https://www.instagram.com/marcrebillet
https://www.twitter.com/loop_daddy

Here you will learn everything you need to know about Marc Rebillet, aka Marc "Loop Daddy" Rebillet, aka Marc “I paid you to be a DJ for my wedding, not to waste the atmosphere with your shits” Rebillet, an artist, actor, musician, composer, humorist, philosopher and phone psychotherapist who explores the realms of the looping art through such mainstream themes as rape, buttholes, or herpes.

Marc was spiritually born around 2007 in an iPhone waiting line. Hearing a voice in the bathroom calling him on a mission, he went there and found fortune. He then launched his big plan for ruling the world, based on pooping on everything. He failed, but his aspirations remain intact.

Taking advantage of the huge popularity he immediately reached on YouTube (14 subscribers in less than a day), he bought a BOSS RC-505 loop station. To cook rice? No, asshole, to make loops. Some may ask: "Why looping?" and Marc would probably answer: "I don't know man, I just do what I like". But don't be fooled, we all know the reason is that he's just a lazy dumbass.

Despite what you might expect, he learned to play the piano at 5. Immediately noticed by his teachers, he became the boy we all know as the "Mozart of Dallas" in no time, composing his best masterpieces before reaching age 12. He then fell sick, ravaged by an inexplicable melancholy.

Desperate, his parents tried everything to cure him. From therapists to beating the shit out of him, including his uncle Jimmy trying to help with "special bedroom sessions", nothing seemed to lead to recovery. He got worse.

Let's go back to the BOSS RC-505 loop station, much better than the 202, even the 101, if it ever existed.

Did you know that the BOSS RC-505 loop station can be operated with the hands, and is absolutely perfect for beatboxers, vocalists, club performers, and normal people who liked to hear the word “butthole” 13452 times, without actually having to pronounce the whole of it?

Not to mention it has not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, but 5 stereo phrase tracks, with dedicated controls (so you don't have to bet which one will work each time), and independent volume faders (so you can lower your voice with a touch, instead of running far away from the microphone, as our ancestors used to do). It includes a wide range of Input FX and Track FX, who gives a fuck about the meaning of this, but you'll be happy to know it's useful for processing loops. It contains a DJ (I'm imagining a real guy delivered with the BOSS RC-505, what a comic thought) and sampler-style effects, like the priceless robot voice, or the famous and traditionally misogynist "woman voice".

You can register no less than 99 phrases. As the famous actor once said: "Wow". But wait, could you guess that these 99 phrases each contain 5 phrase tracks, custom effects and even, even, ladies and gentlemen, you won't believe it: and even MORE? What does more mean, you might ask? Copywriters are not well-paid for product descriptions, so fuck you.

Are we finished with that advertising-in-disguise? Yes, we are, but a last word before we move on to another fascinating subject: the BOSS RC-505 includes 85 onboard rhythm patterns. 85, motherfucker. I could cry about that.

Now I know what you all want to know. Please, Marc, tell us everything about your keyboard! You mean my computer keyboard? Marc, is that a joke? I try to be funny and you trick me, you ungrateful bastards. Well ok, you win! I play on an M-Audio Axiom 49 Semi-Weighted USB MIDI controller! Here! You’re happy now? Is that what you want? You want me to be serious? Do you want me to commit suicide? Do you want me to burn a post-office?

Before bringing that appalling description to an end, I would like to remind to everyone 5 basic rules for a nice living on Earth:

1. Stop that rape. No more rape. One more rape? No more rape.

2. Big birds can’t fly. Nope. It would be terrifying.

3. Don’t bother Jenny while she’s cooking by playing Didjeridoo, especially under the couch.

4. Don’t bring Sheila to a restaurant if you have a mortgage.

5. Woop poop babeladiledouda baps bops pepetapepetouta rinkinkinkinkin tikitiki tink.

Santé at White Rabbit 2nd Anniversary - Dancing 11pm to 6am

White Rabbit 2nd Anniversary

SANTÉ (Avotre | Berlin)

https://www.facebook.com/santemusic
https://soundcloud.com/sante
https://www.beatport.com/artist/sante/53154

Santé, hailing from Berlin, is part of a new school of artists championing musicality, skillfulness and creativity over mindless loops and endless repetition. His productions, like those on his record label AVOTRE, ooze character, charisma & humour, feelings so often overlooked in the realms of house music.

Santé’s 2018 calendar was packed with key events such as festival bookings throughout Europe and key Ibiza dates. Continuing to push boundaries with his electrifying live shows, Santé had become a resident for the newly launched ‘CAVE RAVE’ event concept, breaking ground at Liverpool’s Arts Club in March of 2018. Incorporating 3-D projection and an altogether deeper sound, ‘CAVE RAVE’ is set to make a return this year with a series of yet to be announced summer dates.

It all started when Santé bought an Akai MPC-2000 aged 16 and set the ball rolling for a life entrenched in electronic music. “I was totally into sampling and house”, he recalls of those early days of button bashing and experimentation. He left his hometown when he was 21 to immerse himself in the dance music mecca that is Berlin. A studio internship blossomed into a full-time career, with the emerging talent spending six years producing jingles and ad music and nurturing his passion for house music at any opportunity. Nothing was released, however, until one of his demos found its way to Matt ‘Radio Slave’ Edwards. His first ever release came out on Edwards’ acclaimed REKIDS imprint, setting the bar incredibly high and garnering him a lot of high-profile attention in the process.

The next major stepping-stone for him was meeting Tiefschwarz. “They were looking for a new engineer and hired me to oversee all projects for their label Souvenir, where I got the freedom to release my music and a platform to experiment” he explains. This fruitful, intense relationship lasted three years, a time Santé describes as being “a fantastic experience”. After working on many of Tiefschwarz’s releases, including remixes for Richie Hawtin and Grace Jones, Santé decided to fly the nest in search of new pastures. His subsequent release schedule spells out what a diverse producer he is and how far his popularity ranges - from bastions of techno like Cocoon to the kings of big room house Defected, through to underground darlings like Desolat and Supernature, all the way to acclaimed remixes for huge stars like Depeche Mode. Few producers can claim such a breadth of imprints to be associated with at any one time. When you ask Santé to describe his musical style, he says he doesn’t really know how to - which goes someway to explaining his widespread appeal.

Kyle Watson Bio:

Musically trained from a young age, Kyle’s foundation has helped him forge a path through the Garage Band generation. Not afraid to step out of his comfort zone, his boundless appreciation for music has given Kyle a unique and eclectic sound that has secured him as one of South Africa’s most successful international dance music producers.

Some of the biggest players in the world – top charters like Oliver Heldens, Pleasurekraft, Sonny Fodera, Claude Von Stroke, Justin Martin, Shiba San,and more – have been supporting Kyle’s music. It is because of this avid support that his music has been released on high profile record labels such as Heldeep, Dirtybird, This Ain’t Bristol, Atlantic/Big Beat, Universal and Ultra.

Within his home country, Kyle’s music has been playlisted on national radio stations and topped their charts. With official remixes for Rudimental, Justin Martin & Malaa (to name a few) under his belt, his productions show no sign of slowing down.

Kyle is well respected within the local industry and his home club Truth in Johannesburg, and has grown his global reach with recent tours across Brazil and Australia. His influences have helped his music evolve into a style of forward thinking house music that combines the grit of bass music with catchy melodies and switched up quirky grooves.
